Paul Galschneider
was born in 1957 in Czechoslovakia. and raised in Dornbirn, Austria. In 1985 he moved to the United States, living in Boulder, Colorado, Short Hills, New Jersey, and finally settling on Nantucket in 1994.
Galschneider's interest in art developed later in life. Needing a way to express himself, Galschneider embraced painting. In 1993, he apprenticed for Earl Biss, (1947-1998), a nationally known Native Crow Indian, American artist, where Galschneider futher developed his own technique. He stretches his imagination to explore new techniques and subjects. Over the years, he has perfected his own unique style. Galschneider's work is highly appreciated and collected internationally.
His work is Impressionistic and Expressionistic in oils, delighting in a Van Gogh-like palatte, demonstrating his unique use of color. His work ranges from brightly colored seascapes and landscapes, to dark-hued, evocative interiors. Galschneiders' interiors reflect a dark period in his life, often depicting a historic house on Cliff Rd, Nantucket. His torment is reflected in a work called "Deportation" , exposing his feelings. His bold and dramatic sunflowers, tulips, and red poppies are inspired from his childhood memories. Currently, his serene seascapes speak of peaceful Nantucket Island days, and reflect the contentment in his life with his wife, Teresa and his daughter Paloma, and his two step daughters Amanda & Lily
When not painting in his studio or plein air, Galschneider, diverts his creative energies to his hillside garden, creating balanced stone sculptures along the winding brick paths. In recent years, he created a series of one of a kind, Functional Copper Sculptures, incorporating natural materials, Many of these pieces have a whimsical Art Deco aura.
Galschneider"s work can be found year round at Even Keel Cafe During the summer months, he showcases his work at the Summer House Restaurant in Sconset, MA.
